Formal Safety Assessment (FSA) studies form an integral part of demonstrating the safety of a facility throughout its lifecycle. These studies evaluate major accident hazards and the adequacy of measures to prevent, control and mitigate their consequences. Depending on project requirements, the scope may include fire and explosion risk, escape, evacuation and rescue, emergency systems survivability, and other relevant safety assessments. Potential accident scenarios are examined using appropriate analytical methods and modelling tools. The results support the evaluation of facility layout, safety systems and emergency response arrangements. Recommendations are developed to address identified gaps and support the demonstration that risks are reduced to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). The findings are documented in technical reports to support design decisions, HSE Case development and ongoing risk management.
