Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) combines incident frequency analysis and consequence modelling to quantify risks to people from potential major accidents. The assessment applies to offshore and onshore facilities in the oil and gas, LNG, chemical, petrochemical and power sectors. Scenarios such as fires, explosions and toxic releases are examined according to the facility’s hazards and agreed scope. Individual and societal risks are evaluated against applicable risk acceptance criteria, with risk contours and F–N curves developed where required. The results identify significant risk contributors and support decisions on facility layout, safeguards and risk reduction measures. Sensitivity studies and ALARP demonstrations support the evaluation of further risk reduction options. Clearly documented assumptions, assessment results and practical recommendations provide a basis for project decisions and ongoing risk management.
